Choosing a name for a holiday bundle of joy can be quite stressful. Simple ideas to select the best name for a Christmas baby.

Selecting a baby name is very difficult, whether it is a first or last born baby. Thousands of names are available and parents are looking for a name a child can be proud of. However, the name list decreases substantially if the search is for a Christmas baby name.

Name Selection Process

First step for choosing a Christmas baby name is to sit and watch some current and classic Christmas movies. The classic movie,Santa is Coming to Town (1970) refers to Santa Claus as Kris Kringle. Therefore, Kris, Chris, Christopher are good names for boy infants born around the Christmas season. Write down all names from the Christmas movies that are acceptable. First step in selecting a name is to create an extensive list.

Parents need an extensive list of baby names because often they disagree in regards to their unborn child's name. Next step is to ask friends and family. There has been more than one baby born on or near Christmas Day.

Another great option is the Internet as there are countless sites dedicated to baby names. Simply use the search words Christmas baby names, Christmas boy names, Christmas girl names, common Christmas baby names.

Take your list of baby names and search for their meaning. For example, Noel is the french meaning of Christmas. You may find this meaning ideal or too simple. It is important to know the meaning of the name, as children often ask about their names.

Final Name Decision

Finally, it is time to choose a baby's Christmas name. It is important for both parents to select the name. Before the selection is made, try out the name with the infant's last name. For example, if Winter is the choice for a baby girl and the child's last name is Snow, Winter Snow may not be an ideal name as they are very similar words. However, Winter Smith might just be the name, as Winter is a little less common and Smith is a very common name.

Another suggestion is to rhyme the name to avoid negative rhyming connotations. Winter rhymes with splinter and printer. Those are not bad rhyming names. However, Holly rhymes with jolly and dolly, so a child may be nicknamed Jolly Holly. Nicknames do come about; just be careful and keep this in mind when selecting a name.

Last thing for the new parents is to talk to the unborn child with her name. Try a few days with each name selected. After talking to the baby, the name may not connect with the child. Keep trying until one name just fits perfectly.
