Diaper bags are part of every mom's life whether it is your first baby or your seventh. It's more important than your purse and almost as important as your car keys. No mom would think of even venturing out to the store without a fully packed diaper bag right? That would surely be the moment that the baby throws up on his one and only outfit or you break down in traffic with just the diaper he has on.
But if you are a new mom, trying to figure out exactly what to put into your diaper bag can be like solving a puzzle. After all you don't want to forget the necessities, but at the same time, carrying around a bag that weighs more than the baby doesn't sound appealing either. So for the those trying to put just the right amount of items in their diaper bag here is a checklist of some "must have" items you won't want to be without.
Diapers -make sure you have plenty with you. It's always wise to just keep an extra pack in the car.
Baby Wipes - Instead of toting a large plastic container full of baby wipes around, place some in a zipper top plastic bag or just purchase a refill pack for the diaper bag. These are great for sticky hands, faces and for mom to clean up with as well. Out of baby wipes? Pack a wet wash cloth in a zipper bag.
Bottles & Formula - if bottle feeding – extra breast pads if nursing. Actually it never hurts to carry a bottle with you even if you are nursing in case of an emergency situation.
Water - for mixing formula – if you are going somewhere it may not be easy to get . It's advisable to carry a gallon jug of water in the car at all times.
Pacifiers -pack an extra pacifier or two, these are so easily lost or left behind and not worth making the trip back for.
Diaper cream - you never know when diaper rash will crop up.
A changing pad– it can be as simple as a receiving blanket to lay the baby on when changing him.
Clothes - pack at least one complete extra outfit, make it comfy and convenient. Also pack extra onesies and a sweater and hat - weather can change quickly.
Bibs - babies are notorious droolers.
Ziplock Bags - for dirty diapers, wet clothes and other emergencies.
First Aid Kit - including baby Tylenol is a good idea. You can find small travel size kits.
Sippy Cup - for toddlers.
Small Toys - to keep baby entertained.
A Burp Cloth – cloth diapers are great for this.
Disposable Camera – not a must but so you never miss out on that adorable picture.
