Kisses Baby Wraps were created by a young mother who recognized a niche that could be filled with an affordable, stylish, high-quality baby carrier.

Kisses Baby is a small company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that produces handmade, high quality baby wrap carriers. Ailish Irwin, creator and director of Kisses Baby, started using wraps and slings when her first son was born in 2005. She thought the practice of babywearing was highly beneficial, but she found that the slings and wraps available at the time were overly expensive and not very fashionable. The new mom soon starting experimenting making wraps for herself, her family and her friends. Soon her entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and she decided to market them to others.

Babywearing and Attachment Parenting

Traditionally and in many foreign cultures, babies are carried by their mothers in slings throughout most of their infancy, but the practice has not been common in modern North American culture. The attachment parenting philosophy is gaining popularity, however, and one of the major principles of the practice is babywearing. By literally wearing her baby in a sling or wrap, a mother can pay better attention to her baby’s needs, reduce crying and fussiness, let her baby feel safe and secure and still have her hands free to go about her daily tasks. Several studies have been done showing that babies who are worn in slings or wraps develop better and faster physically and mentally.

The Kisses Difference

There are many companies offering baby wraps and slings. Irwin sets her wraps apart by creating homemade, stylish wraps, developed by using them with her own children. The Kisses Baby Wrap is one long piece of fabric that is wrapped around the body of the wearer, allowing completely hands-free babywearing. The exceptionally soft jersey fabric the wraps are made of soothes a baby’s skin and is comfortable for the wearer too.

Parents can start using the wrap with a newborn and continue to carry their child in it until they are toddlers. The special design distributes the baby’s weight evenly so there is no tugging or strain on the wearer’s neck or shoulders. The wraps are one size fits all, so Dad, Grandma or even the babysitter can wear the baby when Mom needs a break.

Fashionable Finds

Perhaps their most distinguishing figure is the chic designs and gorgeous colours they come in. The Kisses Baby Wraps even have fun, interesting names; a buyer can choose between The Lei Breeze, The Kleo Sage, The Coco Beach, The Carnival Bloom, The Baja Olivine, The Truffle Wrap or The Coriander Wrap.

More Info

The Kisses Baby Wrap is a bargain at $40 and the company offers very reasonable shipping rates to Canada and the United States.

The Kisses Baby website features instructions complete with photographs on how to put on and use the wrap as well as some safety tips and more information on the benefits of babywearing.
