One of best arguments for using cloth vs. disposable diapers is that cloth baby diapers can retain their value and be resold.

Parents who want to resell cloth diapers need to protect their investment from the beginning.

Keep Cloth Baby Diapers Clean

One of the easiest ways to preserve the value of cloth baby diapers is to not allow them to get stained. Stains directly affect the appearance of the diaper. To prevent stains, wash very soiled diapers immediately. Also consider using diaper liners, either purchased or homemade. For homemade diaper liners, cut fleece from a fabric store into wide rectangles. Lay the liner inside the cloth diaper closest to the baby’s skin. Not only does the fleece place a barrier between the feces and the diaper, fleece will wick moisture away from the baby’s skin.

Following care recommendations for the diaper’s material is crucial. There are very few materials that react well to repeated bleaching and prolonged sun exposure. Holes can develop in hemp and cotton, polyurethane laminate (PUL) can break down and lose its waterproof barrier, and elastic in fitted diapers can be destroyed.

Buyers Want the Best Cloth Diapers

The most important consideration for buyers in the market for cloth baby diapers is condition. There are specific grades for cloth diapers. Diapers that are new have never been washed or used. Excellent diapers are washed but not used. There is some overlap between excellent and good cloth diapers. An immaculate used diaper is sometimes listed as excellent. Good diapers are just that; they are clean, whole, working cloth diapers with no tears and only light stains, if any. Poor diapers have tears, stains or closure problems.

A stained diaper that looks good otherwise should have a note that it is totally functional but stained. While some buyers are more discriminating than others, the cloth diaper’s condition at least must be usable. Any cloth diaper that cannot be used should be thrown away or offered free for shipping (FFS).

Honesty from Cloth Baby Diaper Sellers

Cloth diaper buyers insist on honesty from sellers. They want and need to know if the diaper is coming from a smoke-free or pet-free home. For some parents, this is more than just a special preference, it is due to health and safety reasons. Admitting the home is not smoke-free or pet-free can be crucial to establishing a reputation for honesty.

Accurate Cloth Baby Diaper Descriptions

Cloth baby diaper buyers want accurate descriptions. This can include when the diaper was purchased, how long it was used, how it was laundered and brand or WAHM’s name. Photos go a long way toward proving the accuracy as does details. For example, detailing the color of stitching on prefold diapers can help determine the size and absorbency.

It is important to be specific about any flaws. Buyers are seeking cloth diapers with good hook and loop closures or working snaps. Diapers with holes or stains are less desirable, as are popped seams and stretched elastic. Take special care when stuffing pocket cloth diapers to not bust open the pocket seam by overstuffing. Individual buyers may have their own standards so always offer to provide additional information and photos upon request.

Feedback for Selling Cloth Diapers Online

Cloth diaper buyers want to know the seller has a reputation for completing the sale. Feedback from eBay, Diaper Pin or Diaper Swappers can seal the deal.

To ensure good feedback:

  • Mail as soon as possible after payment is received.
  • Communicate with the buyer if there are any shipping delays.
  • Always pay extra for delivery confirmation.
  • Consider insuring packages worth more than $25.
  • Request feedback in a public forum after package arrives.

Buyers seeking cloth baby diapers want good, working, unstained diapers. They expect accuracy and honesty from a reliable seller. Following these tips will ensure good results selling cloth diapers.

Where in the world can one find used diapers for a decent price??? I have found used diapers to purchase but these people want the same money they paid for them new!! I do not care about small stains as long as the diaper is usable and is functional. Where are all the used diapers with stains if this will save me a few more bucks!
