Last Minute Pregnancy Plans

Some basic preparations can help you to enjoy your new baby and recover from childbirth without added stress.

Preparing to welcome a new baby into your home is one of the most important events in your life. It comes with a lot of anticipation and stress. A little planning can help you to enjoy the time that you have with your new baby without worrying about things that are not really essential.

Make plans for your time in the hospital. Even though you are being taken care of during your hospital stay, your home and other family members still need to be provided for. Many times, husbands are not aware of the things that you expect to be done around the house but they are willing to help out if they know where to start. Leave your husband or family members a list of things that need to be accomplished in your home each day. Include reminders like when trash day is and when the bills need to be paid.

Prepare meals in advanced. You can easily build up a supply of meals for your freezer simply by doubling the ingredients as you make dinner each night. Serve your family the portions that they need for dinner and freeze the rest to be used while you are in the hospital or home recovering. It helps to label each meal with the contents, date, thawing and cooking instructions, and some possible side dishes.

Avoid buying too many baby items before your baby is born. This is very tempting to do, especially if it is your first baby, but it will prevent you from having a supply of clothing or baby products that will be wasted. Many people give newborn sized clothes as gifts but babies grow quickly and typically do not wear them for long. It may be a better idea to buy larger sizes for your baby to use later on when the baby gifts have slowed down. Many baby products are unnecessary and do not get used after your baby comes home. Wait until you have determined what your parenting style is and what supplies you will actually use before making too many purchases.

Be clear with your family and friends about what you want while you are recovering. If you are not planning on having visitors immediately after your baby is born let potential visitors know so they are not offended when they are not called right away. It is easier to tell people what you expect before your baby is born than to try and be blunt about it when the excitement of a new baby makes some friends or family forget their manners.

Enjoy the time that you have before your baby arrives. It is easy to get impatient towards the end of pregnancy but it is important to remember that it will not last forever. Enjoy the time you have with your other children before they welcome another sibling into the family and relish the last few kicks that you will feel your baby make from the inside. Believe it or not there are things about being pregnant that you will miss once your baby has arrived.
