Deciding on the right baby name can be difficult, but considering name popularity can be one way to narrow down the choices. Check out these top 100 male names of 2007.

Naming a baby can be a difficult and stressful task, particularly when the situation involves a hormonal pregnant mother and a frazzled father-to-be. Some pregnant parents find themselves just days away from the baby’s due date, only to find that they’ve yet to decide on a baby name, and this only adds to the stress associated with the name selection process.

The baby naming process is different for each set of parents. Some parents carry on a legacy when they name a baby after a family member. Others opt for a biblical name or a name that’s in some way related to their heritage (i.e. Irish baby names). Others still will choose a name that they’ve heard in a movie or read in a book. And a few will pick a cute boys name that fits their tastes "just because."

The baby name selection process varies dramatically from parent to parent, but in most cases, pregnant moms and dads typically consider the same factors when picking a baby name, including meaning, origin, sound, and spelling.

Baby Name Popularity

Popularity is another major factor that parents should address when picking out the perfect baby name for their new little boy. In fact, psychologists and sociologists have discovered in recent years that the popularity of a baby’s name will, in part, determine the child’s adolescent social identity. Will your baby boy have a name that’s one-of-a kind? Or will he be one of five kids in the class with the name “Christopher” or “John?” Or will your already-shy boy turn even shyer when he’s teased because of his name? These are all very plausible scenarios and expecting parents should keep in mind that childhood experiences largely determine personality and temperament.

Each year, the United States Social Security Administration releases a list of the most popular baby names for boys and girls. In 2007, the top name for boy babies was “Jacob.” The top ten boys’ names for 2007 included several biblical names. The top ten list of names for baby boys in 2007 included “Michael,” “Ethan,” “Joshua,” “Daniel,” “Christopher,” “Anthony,” “William,” “Matthew” and “Andrew.”

Cyndi Allison :
Neat article! I see that my boys' names are listed. I went with old names that I hadn't heard used in a long time. Then, those names got popular again (-:

Oh. I forgot to add . . . Caleb is also a biblical name. He was a friend of Joshua in the Bible. One of my two is a Caleb. It means "brave" and also "dog" (as one man here in town always loved to tell me).
