Sibling Jealousy

Dealing with Jealous Toddlers

Sibling rivalry can sometimes start before a sibling even arrives.

In our house, we are getting ready to welcome a third baby to our home. The transition from 1-2 children went so smoothly that I think it may be pay back time this time around. My not quite 2 year old loves to be the center of attention and thinks that share is a dirty word. As soon as he realized that the new baby was going to be using some of the things that he has outgrown he started getting extremely jealous. He used to kiss my tummy and say baby but lately he has begun biting my tummy and saying "no baby".

We've been trying to have him spend time around other babies since he has not been around babies much before. Luckily we had a friend who just had a baby a month ago. My son will laugh and point at the baby as long as someone else is holding him but as soon as I try and hold the baby he tries to pinch him.

Parenting is funny because no matter how prepared you think you are, each child is different and they grow up in their own unique way.
