» Grandma07 - How to get your toddler to eat vegetables
Great Hints, Teresa! It's so important that children eat their vegetables. I've found that the distaste for veggies comes about the time we start solid food - for some reason Docs have told parents to start babies on fruits prior to vegetables - after having the naturally sweet fruits, they don't want anything to do with the veggies. My solution was to start the veggies prior to the fruit - it worked for 5 of my 6 children. The first child I listened to the doctor!-- posted by Grandma07

I will soon be offering veggies to my infant son and wondered if I should have offered them before the fruits. I have thought of mixing a bit of applesauce in with the veggies to help him adjust to the taste. Has anyone tried that? Did it work?

I got the best advice from my daughter's first caregiver. She said to do the opposite of what you hear all the time (cereal, then fruit, then veggies). She said do cereal then veggies first, starting with the most hardcore veggies (peas, beans, spinach, other greens), then orange veggies (squash, sweet potato) and THEN fruit. I did that with my daughter, she loved them and to this day she's great about eating veggies... and actually turns her nose up to some bad foods kids her age (3) tend to like (pizza, burgers). I plan to do the same with my twins, as I'm just now starting solids with them.
