» mbusby - My 4 1/2 yr boy won't eat veggies

I'm trying to get my son to retrain his taste buds to a more healthy diet. The only veggie he eats are mashed potatoes and the only fruit he eats are grapes. He's big on chicken, no burgers. He'll eat pasta with no sauce. He hates ranch dressing. So, all the top 10 ways to get your child to eat veggies just don't seem to apply. Any suggestions? HELP!

My girls at that age started to love pizza. I grated peppers, green squash and carrots and added them under the cheese topping on home-made pizza and my daughters never figured it out for years!

My girls also liked dip, so we did find a dressing they liked to "dip" the veggies in.

My mother always mixes her italian dressing right into the salad. My girls never ate salad until we were visiting the grandparents and sure enough - they gobbled up "Grandma's salad!"

Just keep offering it and trying it different ways. My girls love veggies now. When they were little, they would say "Mom, why do you make peas when you know I hate them?" I would answer "Because I know someday your taste buds will change and you might change your mind."

Sometimes when you have a picky eater fruit dips are a big hit. If you start trying to add more fruit to his diet many times preschoolers are more likely to be attracted to the sweetness of the fruit.

Vegetables can be added to many of the dishes you regularly cook for your family. I cut green peppers up into small pieces and add them to spaghetti, meatloaf, and many other dishes.

The best thing you can do is just keep serving them. It may seem like his habits are set in stone now but eventually he will give in and try something new and he may be surprised at how much he likes it. Try new varieties that he may not have been exposed to before.

If he likes grapes will he eat fruit salad with grapes in it? Even if he picks the other fruit out at first it may get him thinking about trying it.
